LIMITS: START TO FINISH

Connecting Pretest, to Acquisition, to Analysis with APEX Limits Files

IT’S ALL ABOUT LIMITS!

PRE-TEST LIMITS DEFINITIONS

In the world of dynamic data analysis, one of the most important features of our end-to-end software solution is our frequency-based limits analysis. Beginning with APEX GageMap mesh-free sensor optimization tool – limits definition files are created from modal goodman analysis of Finite Element Models, tied to real-world sensor locations (also easily defined by GageMap!). These limits define critical high-cycle-fatigue criteria that every high-performance vehicle must pass before production. Saved in an easy to read and edit CSV file, these limits serve as the backbone for many major OEM’s durability test programs.

ONLINE MONITORING AND ANALYSIS

Of course, defining the limits for each mode and sensor is only the first step of the process. Next, limits files can be imported into APEX DS acquisition and real-time analysis software for in-test visual feedback and limits tracking. Limits definition files have an lower and upper limit, which will cause plots and warning lights to glow yellow and red respectively. Additionally, these limits appear directly on plots as visual lines on spectral plots and color-coded tics on Campbell diagrams. Having limits on the test stand both improves safety and increases analysis throughout, as engineers have instant feedback on potential problem areas and test conditions.

POST-TEST ANALYSIS

Finally, limits are used in APEX DX post-analysis suite. In addition to the same great visual plot representation found in DS – DX adds the ability to plot any channel based on %limit per-mode or overall, and can collect important responses across all channels instantly, sorting by % limit or over-limit results. This instantly brings attention to potential durability issues covering every channel, across runs and even test programs.
